With Election Day just around the corner in the United States, we are sharing this beautiful and pithy quilt that came to our collection in 2023. This quilt features the same design on each side made from different fabrics — the front uses solid color fabrics while the back uses printed fabrics.
Political activism has taken many forms in the world of quilting. Environmental issues, gun violence, civil rights, and women's health are just a few of the political topics tackled by quilters in the modern age.
Earlier this year we hosted Dr. Teri Walker for an episode of Textile Talks. Using quilts from our collection, Walker explored political messaging in quilts and what issues motivate the modern quiltmaker. Her talk is available on our YouTube channel.
