Luxury textiles including silks, embroideries, embossed velvets, and metallic threads have long been produced in Türkiye (Turkey) and have often been used to make yorgans (quilts).During the Ottoman era (c. 1285-1923), yorgans lavishly adorned the walls and beds of palaces and homes, contributing to a rich sense of interior architecture. One way embroidery was applied to a yorgan was by creating pre-embroidered decals using metallic threads on a base fabric. These decals were then appliquéd to a quilt top, giving the embroidered motifs added structure and dimensionality. This example has embroidered metallic thread decals that together create an elaborate "Tree of Life" motif and which are complemented by couched and sequined details.
