Genealogical records tell us a lot about our quilt of the month, “Fleur de Lis,” a part of the Joanna S Rose Collection of Red and White Quilts. This unique appliqué quilt was made by Adaline Jordan. Her marriage records reveal that the quilt commemorates Adaline’s marriage to Allen Lockwood on February 18, 1858.
Adaline was born on April 22, 1828, in Wallkill, NY. She and Lockwood were married until he died in 1890. On September 4, 1895, Adaline remarried; however, her second marriage lasted less than a year, as she died on August 6, 1896 in Howells, NY.
