Whimsy II: Quilts of a Feather
Whimsy II: Quilts of a Feather
The IQM revisits "Whimsy" with a second exhibition of fanciful and playful quilts. "Whimsy II: Birds of a Feather" is inspired by a unique feather quilt made by Mary T. Barker of Missouri in 1876. It is a rare example of a quilt made entirely of feathers! Look also for stylized peacocks on a charming 19th century red and green applique quilt, chickens amidst images of daily village life on a traditional Hmong story quilt; and a colorful flock of birds frolicing on a charming quilt by Oklahoman Josephine Thompson. These quilts make us smile, laugh, and take a closer look. They invite us into the lives of the makers who created such fun quilts, expressing a creative delight in their unique visions of assorted avian creatures.
