Watching You
Watching You
This sensational quilt was made in 1993 by California-based quiltmaker Linda MacDonald. This predominantly cotton quilt features printed images on the top and hand quilting throughout. It was gifted to the International Quilt Museum in 2011 in honor of museum co-founder Ardis James who passed away earlier that year at the age of 85.
MacDonald is a multimedia artist at the forefront of the studio quilt art movement. In her book "The California Art Quilt Revolution," author Nancy Bavor identifies three stylistic phases of Linda MacDonald's work as a quilt artist. Her first phase included large, three-dimensional landscapes. The second phase — during which "Watching You" was created — focused on monochrome figures created with an airbrush technique. Her third phase continued the use of airbrushing, while focusing primarily on ecological issues central to her California home.
