Our Quilt of the Month returns with a brilliant piece from renowned quiltmaker Yvonne Wells. 

This piece features a female figure holding a baby in front of a patchwork backdrop. A close look reveals a two American flags and a checkered flag, as well as a racecar with a "1" on the side. According to "The Story Quilts of Yvonne Wells" — a book released in September 2024 by Wells and co-author Stacy I. Morgan of the University of Alabama —  this quilt is an homage to the racecar driver Danica Patrick. Made in 2001, this quilt one of a handful of quilts that speak to Wells' affinity for sports. Paul "Bear" Bryant, Jackie Robinson and Tiger Woods are other popular athletes referenced in Wells' work.
