This patriotic quilt was made by members of the Boligee, Alabama chapter of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP Club). The organization’s mission is to provide opportunities for persons 55 or older to volunteer within their communities. The RSVP Club provides a setting for women to piece and quilt together.

Two of the Boligee chapter's members, Mary Maxtion and Lureca Outland, who were sisters-in-law, also enjoyed making American flag quilts. The IQM's Robert and Helen Cargo Collection of African American Quilts has five of Mary Maxtion's flag quilts and one of Lureca Outland's.
